December 21, 2012 is very popular as being the day the world is going to end. I started the year by waking up and walking into the living room to find my nephew had left the television on when he had went home and it had the John Cusack movie 2012
playing on it. Right at the start of the movie, just as Los Angeles is about to take a dive into the ocean.

I’m not sure if that was a good strt to the year, or some kind of prophetic warning I should be taking heed of.

So, let’s talk muses and the end of the world. What kinds of dire ends for the world can your muses think up? How would you visualize the world coming to an end, or changing in some major manner, on December 21st of this year?

IT can be hard to sort out the best time to work when you are a writer. You want a time when the muses are active, when you have ideas and the words floe out onto the screen with ease, but if you are working at night and the words really start flowing well, then you can end up staying awake until the early morning hours without realizing it and that can throw off your entire sleep pattern.

There are so many distractions in the morning, however, that it can be hard to find the time in the morning to sit down and write. So what is a writer to do?

If you figure that out, please let me know. Until then, I have decided that the best way to find the time to write is to move other things to fit in with my planned writing times. After a failed effort by me and my writing companion to write from the hours of 9pm to 11 pm, in which we ended up not stopping writing until after 3 in the morning, we have reconsidered our writing time and will instead aim for waking up at 8am and writing until we are forced to go do other things during the course of the day. We’ll see how that plan works out.

Saving Money

December 30, 2011

Author: Joseph Sandoval

We’re all about saving money right now in our household and it’s not really for any particular reason. My husband and I both have great jobs but I think we’re of the mindset that now’s the time to really cut back and make sure we’re getting the best deals on everything we can – neither of us want to find ourselves in a pickle if we were to get hurt or lose our jobs or something. I love the thought of stashing away hundreds every month and I know Mark does, too, and I can only imagine all the fun things we’ll have money for by the end of this year. Maybe a big tripor something like that – the possibilities are endless! All just from working overtime and looking for Oncor Electric deals and things like that. It’s pretty easy to cut back when you put your mind to it but it does take time, that’s the key. Nothing’s going to fall into your lap so you’ve got to make it happen!

Here is another of my tests in the 3D programs, this one made for a project I am working on over at www.MarsStationOne.com. I want to eventually create a 3D movie based on a novel I started years ago about the first manned mission to Mars. This is a test rendering of a mechanic in the hydroponics bay I created. The room is my own creation, the boxes and figure are all created by other 3D artists. The Martian background is courtesy of NASA.

Here is a look at part of my 3D hydroponics bay shown without the texture maps or any of the other stuff in the scene above -

I have been playing with 3D rendering programs, it is a fun little exercise with a clear end goal. I want to start creating representations for the characters in my stories, so I can make mini-movies from some of my short stories. Between now and the time I get to that level of skill, however, I am going to work on making some characters that can be used to populate my writing websites.

Such as the image here of the young woman with the glowing pendant. I am sure that your muses can come up with as many scenarios as mine for who she might be, what the pendant is and what kind of story might be able to be crafted around the image.

Character created using Daz Studio, image cropped and frame added using GIMP.

Today I reached my goal. Not only did I reach it, but I ended up saving one hundred dollars more than I expected. Finally I can go to DIRECTSTARtv.com and get cable so that I can start watching my favorite shows again. For those of you who don’t know, about six months ago, I decided to start saving all of my change and keeping it in one place. I put collection jars all over the house. Each time I came home, I cleaned out my purse. I separated the silver and copper coins. Before I knew it, the jars became too heavy to lug around. So this morning, I loaded up all of my jars in boxes and went to the coin machine at the grocery. I loved to hear the “click, click, click” that the machine makes and watch the numbers go up and up. Saving change has been an easy way to save some extra money. Once you start, you will be surprised how quickly it adds up. It is fun to set your sights on something that you want.

Sometimes, no matter how much I want to write something, I feel like I would be better off beating the muses with a baseball bat than poking at them with a stick.

There are days when I want to write, but the words… the words will not flow! I stare at the blank page and think of the quote I read once about how writing was not difficult, you simply stare at a blank page until beads of blood break out on your forehead.

Yeah… I am starting to feel that way. I know the muses, I know the world the story is set in, I even know what the scene is – but do you think the words will actually thread together properly to make the scene that I know I want to write? No.

It is very frustrating, and so, I am appeasing my need to write by updating blogs. Hopefully by the time I finish this the muses will have an idea on how to make the scene I need to write look like the scene that is intended and not like someone dropped the typeset tray.

The manned mission that NASA has sent to Jupiter has sparked my muses. Now, I have to be fair, the ‘manned’ is a little of an exaggeration… the people on the craft are, in fact, little. NASA and LEGO Group went together to place three tiny LEGO figures to man the Juno spacecraft.

On board Juno are the god Jupiter and his wife Juno along with Galileo Galilei.

These little fellows caught my imagination and my muses flew with the ideas.

One idea was, what if some alien species found the little fellows? Highly unlikely since they are going to be destined for burning up in the atmosphere of Jupiter when Juno finishes its mission, but — what if?

What if an alien race were to be watching Jupiter and noticed this craft arrive and start mapping the planet. What if they interceded when they realized the craft were about to crash into the atmosphere? What would they make of the crew of the ship?

Would they think they represented the species that lives on the planet the craft originated from? What if they wanted to visit our world after discovering them and disguised themselves as being like those three little explorers?

The Bing Gambling website claims to offer everything that you need to know about free no deposit bingo, which are online bingo sites that will allow you to play bingo games on their sites without the need for any kind of a deposit.

When you play no deposit bingo, you are playing a game that is, in effect, a try it before you pay game. You get to access the games on the site and play through them to see how you like the games, what kinds of games they have to odder, and what the online environment is like for that particular website. You get to start out playing, then switch to pay play later on if you decide you like the site and want to play the games – which might have a limited number of tries or limits on other aspects for the free version.

The free bingo no deposit, while it sounds like it is meant for little old ladies at the local church social clubs, is more complicated than the games found at your local church social. There are a wide variety of online bingo games and Bing Gambling says that there are even some bingo no deposit games that will offer signup bonuses that can be used in playing.

I’m not sure what it is, maybe it is the ease of changing things with a quick swipe of a rag, but I have discovered, once again, that my muses adore white boards.

I start writing on the white board (or the side of the freezer) and the muses perk up and ask how they can help me out. They bunt ideas back and forth and carry on about how this or that would be a good idea.

I now just need to get them that excited about sitting down at a computer to write… or invest in a LOT more white boards.
